DEEPER Questions

Go through these questions in your LifeGroup or on your own to Dig Deeper into
Sunday's message

1. Chuck started off his update on New Life Peru with a quote from John Piper about why missions exist: "Missions exist because worship [of the one true God] doesn't." Do you agree with this quote? Why do you think we're called to bring worship of the one true God to places where that kind of worship doesn't exist? What are some examples of missions you've seen or maybe participated in in your own life?

2. It seemed like things were going great with NL Peru at the beginning of this year. As Chuck showed, the women were making uniforms from the sewing machines you purchased, we were praying about starting another church there—and then COVID happened. Why do you think suffering is an inevitable part of being a Christian? How do we hold on to hope in the midst of suffering?

3. After COVID hit Peru, our people there were on the verge of starving. When's the last time you truly had to pray "give us this day our daily bread" and mean it? Have you ever had to pray that prayer in a literal sense? How do you think those in Peru (during COVID and in other seasons) have developed such a trust in God that they truly know He will provide for them day in and day out? Do you think it's more difficult to develop that level of trust in America when our basic needs are pretty much taken care of?

4. When they were in the middle of the COVID lockdown, the people in Peru prayed for deliverance. They would go out and pray in the middle of the night—working like the advancement of the Gospel depended on them, but praying like it was dependent on God. Do you work like it depends on you but pray like it depends on God? If not, how can you work to change that this week?

5. Why do you think we do missions here at New Life? Do you have a heart for mission work, and what benefit do you think it accomplishes for the Kingdom of God?

DIG INTO Scripture

Read and meditate on Sunday's Scripture to find deeper meaning and connection to God

Revelation 5

The Scroll and the Lamb

5 Then I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” 3 And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it, 4 and I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it. 5 And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”
6 And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne. 8 And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying,
“Worthy are you to take the scroll
    and to open its seals,
for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God
from every tribe and language and people and nation,
10 and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God,
and they shall reign on the earth.”
11 Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice,
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might
and honor and glory and blessing!”
13 And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying,
“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”
14 And the four living creatures said, “Amen!” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

LEAVE THE BUILDING

Take what you learned on Sunday and apply it to your life

  • One of the ways you can be involved in missions here at New Life is through prayer. Pray specifically this week for the people of NL Peru—the leaders, the kids, the youth, those yet to be reached for the Gospel—we hope to expand our churches into those as yet unreached areas. Pray that God would continue to open up doors for His worship to continue in this country.
  • Give. It's not always easy to talk about giving/money when it comes to church. What we're doing in Peru is super tangible. One of the ways you can get involved this week (and really anytime!) is through stepping out of your comfort zone and giving a one-time or recurring gift to expand our mission in Peru. Consider giving this week.
  • Going is the third way you can truly leave the building and take what you learned from Sunday into your day-to-day life. We have a few short-term mission trips coming up next year, would you consider going with us? If God is calling you to more, maybe even becoming a missionary full-time, will you follow the call and go on mission for the Gospel?
